Nice To Meet You, I’m Jess!
I grew up in North Wales, where I don’t remember a time I wasn’t drawing. Surrounded by animals and nature, I had an almost constant need to put them down on paper, and that love for observing the world has stayed with me ever since.
I studied Illustration at BA level in Leeds before completing my MA in Illustration at Manchester Metropolitan University. My work is narratively driven, often inspired by adventure, the natural world, and the everyday. I love to bring a sense of curiosity and playfulness to my practice, combining traditional and digital techniques to tell stories that feel both expressive and personal.
Over the course of my studies, I’ve been fortunate to gain recognition for my work, winning 2nd place in Kellogg’s Inclusive Packaging competition, being chosen as one of the winners of the Overbury & EY Art Competition, and contributing to international collaborative projects. I’ve worked on projects ranging from children’s characters to sustainable packaging, always looking for ways to connect creativity with a purpose.
Right now, I’m 24 in that post uni limbo of starting out as a freelancer, seeking out opportunities in book and editorial illustration, publishing, and even game work, areas where I feel my style naturally fits. I also have a recent growing interest in animation, exploring how images can capture ideas, mood, and emotion in movement.
For me, if I could only do one thing for the rest of my life, it would be art.
I’m currently based in North Wales (though I plan to move soon), and when I’m not drawing, you’ll usually find me outdoors bouldering, surfing, or being lazy at home playing animal crossing.
Programs I use: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Procreate, Procreate Dreams and ZBrush. I am currently learning Blender and Toonboom.
I’d love to hear from you!
